A Day Late
I got to work today and realized I forgot to blog yesterday. I'll forgive myself this one since yesterday was a bit drama filled for me. I've discovered that finding an agent is very difficult - even once they're interested. It's a much more political game, a lot about who you know, who you are, and what you can do. I feel like there is some testing involved as well - rewrites before signing, exclusive submissions, and just how to figure out the best order of querying in the first place? This industry is definitely filled with nooks and crannies, covered with cobwebs, and filled with hidey-holes and secret treasure. It's hard to find the information you need sometimes, but if you look hard, you'll eventually find it bound to the web somehwere. My lesson of yesterday is patience. I am not a patient person, and now I realize I'm going to have to be if I ever want to get somewhere - though the 'getting somewhere' part likely means another 3-4 years at least. Which brings me back to the most important fact of writing: always write for yourself, make it fun, because that is the essence of creativity. That said, looks like I have another couple of months of waiting, months and months of rewriting, and then hopefully - one day - a celebration. For now, I think I will return to loving my WIP, which is yet to be named.

Blogging Day
To that effect, I have attached a picture of the view of the storm from my writing window. This picture is a bit artsy, making the storm look worse than it is, thanks to the fog buildup on the glass. Personally, I like the effect because this is how winter makes me feel: foggy. Though I do have a whole pot of Earl Grey to clear me up so I can begin working on my current YA Work in Progress - a novel called Shadow (that's the short name). The previous novel I wrote I've completed and the full manuscript is in the hands of an agent whom I hope to hear positive things from any day now. That manuscript I will refer to as Tales, and I have great things in mind for it. I've had some awesome readers who have loved the story, now all I need to find is a publisher. That's about it for the writing update. I will blog again in a week - if the snow hasn't buried us all alive.

Happy Halloween!
The achilles recovery is going well (fingers-crossed), and the wedding and the honeymoon went off without a hitch. So thankfully I can now focus on more enjoyable activities such as Halloween and NaNoWriMo, which begins tomorrow. But first things first, and that's enjoying the spirit of the day, the thinness of the veil, and everything that comes with it. Today I will be keeping my eyes and senses open, because at midnight I have thirty days to write another novel, which means I'm looking for any and all inspiration I can get.

Eight and a Half Weeks, Vegas, a Wedding, and Greece
I survived a week in an air-walker boot on the crazy, busy neon streets of Las Vegas. Walking to from Treasure Island to the Bellagio was no easy feat after already have wandered randomly around the strip for a few hours, but other than a pounding left heal and bruises on my left shin from the hard plastic casing, I was pretty pain free. Forgetting, of course, that I also have a broken toe on my right foot that liked the walking less than my recently repaired Achilles.
Now's the big test: my wedding tomorrow. I've been practicing walking in boots - normal boots - and other than a slow-step and a limpy gait, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get by. Although the walking boot is definitely going back on my feet after supper so that I can enjoy a few drinks, and also the traditional dance.
Following the wedding, I have a few days to short stuff out before seeing my surgeon prior to flying to Europe. Everything looks okay to me so hopefully he agrees. I really don't want to have to worry about my Achilles for three weeks in Europe. I just want to sit in cafes and get some writing and reading done. My latest interest is Zombies - end-of-the-world-virus anyone?

Seven Weeks In
I ruptured my achilles seven weeks ago. It sucks. There is no other way to say it. I probably wouldn't mind so much, and maybe wouldn't be so down, if only I didn't have a wedding, a pre-wedding trip, and a honeymoon all in a few weeks. Not to mention I'm still putting in full-time hours at work (minus all the time for the physio and follow-up appointments). I can walk in my apocalypse ready boot now, and today I took a few small, shuffling steps in bare feet. But I'm so nervous. I'm scared to do something I've done my entire life: walk. And now I need find the courage. The worst part is the fear that I will re-rupture, and have to travel down the long road to recovery again; it's a really dark road. It doesn't help that I've spent a good portion of my recovery time trying to work on some writing, and not making any progress into the publishing world. It seems like an impossible feat to break onto the bookshelves, and for this reason, I've decided to try some of the self-publishing platforms out there. Maybe I'll be luckier with the Internet than I have been with real Editors.

A Reflective Place
I want to be a writer and I love reading writers' blogs, so I decided I best start my own. Not that I have much to say - not yet anyway, but hopefully the Work in Progress (WiP) I'm currently working on will one day make it onto electronic or concrete shelves, and I'll be able to share a little bit about my own experience with the writing world.
